For six years, Phillip and Christa have served at their church in Greatham, an independent Christian fellowship of around 80 believers meeting weekly in a local primary school.
Phillip works full time for the church, helping lead, teach and care for the congregation. Christa is deeply involved in church life and helps lead the Sunday school, developing a simple, beautiful, relationship-focused curriculum for children.
Recent growth and deepening community relationships have been encouraging to us. The primary school has made its kitchens available, enabling the church to expand its hospitality ministry through regular Sunday lunches. Each year, the church hosts a community Christmas Day lunch attended by people from outside the church. An Easter feast for 100 followed the same pattern this year.
The Johnstons hope for a permanent home in Greatham, enabling fuller participation in their church’s vision: to be a trustworthy people of love, sharing God’s greater love in Jesus Christ with their neighbours.
To help Phillip and Christa continue in their ministry, they are looking to buy a house in the Greatham area so that they can have a permanent home and put down roots within the community they serve.
A suitable home for Phillip, Christa and their family in the area will cost around £650,000, which is more than they can afford. Phillip and Christa are therefore partnering with Mission Housing – a Christian charity that enables key Christian workers to afford accommodation.
